Boosting your well-being with a chat – new research

Good news for Chatty Cafe participants, with recent research finding that just one quality conversation with a friend boosts your daily well-being. What a wonderful reason to come along to our Chatty Tables!

The study “Quality Conversation Can Increase Daily Well-Being” was published in the journal Communication Research by University of Kansas professor of Communication Studies and friendship expert Jeffrey Hall and co-authors Amanda Holmstrom, Natalie Pennington, Evan Perrault and Daniel Totzkay.

The types of communication included in the study of over 900 participants were:

  • Catching up
  • Meaningful talk
  • Joking around
  • Showing care
  • Listening
  • Valuing others and their opinions
  • Offering sincere compliments
