Mosman Chatty Chair
The Chatty Chair initiative, where you can sit and ‘Have a chat’ with others, in Mosman Square , was unveiled by Mosman Mayor Carolyn Corrigan and community members championing the project on October 4th, 2023,
This is a new space encouraging residents and visitors to Mosman to sit and have a chat in a bid to help combat loneliness and social isolation and has been launched in Mosman Square during Mental Health Month.
The dedicated bench is signposted to encourage community members to take a seat, have a chat, and meet new people who are sitting there or wish to join a conversation.
It is a joint initiative of Mosman Council, Chatty Café, Mosman Chamber of Commerce and social enterprise One Another.
National Mental Health Month encourages people to think about mental health and wellbeing, promotes understanding of the importance of good mental health in everyday lives and encourages help-seeking behaviours when needed.
The Chatty Café Scheme Australia, a Health promotion and Harm reduction charity, encourages all sorts of venues across Australia such as cafes, restaurants, clubs, pubs, community centres, libraries, churches, schools, aged-care residences, retirement villages, neighbourhood houses, pubs, hotels, clubs, wine bars and art galleries to provide a shared Chatty table which is where people can sit if they are happy to talk to other customers and “Have a Chat”. Chatty Volunteers, if requested by the venue, can sit at the Chatty table to help introduce the concept to customers and chat to them. We provide all promotional information necessary.
Chatty Cafe Scheme Australia Ltd proudly acknowledges the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander custodians of this land where we work and pay our respects to their Elders, past, present and emerging.
Donations of $2 or more to Chatty Café Scheme Australia are tax-deductible in Australia.
